"Heartbreaking awesome story last meet. Eli was running 3rd leg of the 4x100. There was a clean handoff, but, unfortunately, Ayomikun on the second leg caught Eli’s ankle with his spikes and sent him tumbling down. Eli picked himself up and kept fighting. He handed off the baton to our 4th leg, Brody, who is a rocket. We ended up winning. Eli fell to the track injured and distraught thinking he’d cost the team the race, not knowing his heart put us in a position to win. We gave him lots of love and encouragement as he lay there with tears welling in his eyes .
Now, he’s my best assistant. He coaches steps and form at long jump and his observations are very good."
Young men like this are a joy to coach and add unmeasurable value to the team. He’s happy, positive, and contributing despite his inability to compete.
Eli is a role model for us all!
